Primal Athletics Joins Oakville to “Finish It” at the Terry Fox Run
On Sunday, September 14, our Primal Athletics family laced up their running shoes and gathered on the shores of Lake Ontario for the annual Terry Fox Run in Oakville. Under bright skies at Coronation Park, we joined thousands of others to honour Terry’s enduring dream: a world without cancer and to help finish what he could not finish.
This year’s theme, “Finish It,” carried extra meaning for all of us. Cancer touches nearly every life in some way, and for me, it’s very personal. My husband fought a brief but courageous battle with cancer, and throughout that journey, the Primal community became my steady ground, lifting me up with encouragement, meals, and endless kindness. In lieu of flowers, our family asked loved ones to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation in his honour. Your overwhelming generosity turned grief into purpose and loss into action.
A Tent My Husband Dreamed Of
My husband wanted Primal Athletics to have a tent at the Terry Fox Run, a place where our members could gather, connect, and show the strength of our community. This year, we made that dream a reality. Seeing the Primal tent proudly set up at the race, filled with familiar faces and new friends, felt like carrying his vision forward. The tent became more than a meeting spot; it was a symbol of hope, love, and the bond we share.
To honour him even more, our members wore a sticker with his photo on their shirts. This was a quiet reminder that he was running right there with us.
Team Win Primal Bronte Runners
With hearts full of determination, we formed Team Win Primal Bronte Runners. What started as a small team quickly grew into something remarkable. Our members, clients, friends, and families all stepped forward—running, walking, fundraising, and spreading Terry’s message of hope.
Because of this incredible effort, our team raised over $27,000, making us the top fundraising team in Oakville. Together as a community, Oakville as a whole collected an astounding $208,000 for cancer research. These aren’t just numbers; they represent lives impacted, research pushed forward, and the powerful reminder that one person’s dream can move an entire nation.
The Power of Community
Primal Athletics has always been more than a gym or a fitness trainer in Oakville — we are a family of fighters and supporters. On Sunday, that spirit shone brightly. From early morning set-up to the final cheers along Lakeshore Road, our members showed what true support looks like—running side by side, cheering each other on, and carrying the memory of loved ones who could not be there.
The Terry Fox Run reminds us that strength isn’t just physical. It’s in the way a community rallies around one another: it’s the miles run in honour of a friend, and the shared promise to keep fundraising until we see a cure.
Keeping the Dream Alive
Terry Fox once said, “I want to set an example that will never be forgotten.”
On September 14, Oakville proved his legacy is very much alive. Our team’s incredible achievement is a testament to what happens when compassion meets action.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who ran, donated, and supported us. Thank you to the families and friends who honoured my husband’s memory with contributions that will help others. And thank you to the entire Primal Athletics community for reminding me, and everyone watching, that together we are unstoppable.
We will continue to run. We will continue to raise funds. And we will continue to finish it—for Terry, for those we’ve lost, and for the countless lives we can help save.
If you’d like to keep Terry’s dream alive, you can still donate to the Terry Fox Foundation under: https://run.terryfox.ca/team/winprimalbronterunners and support ongoing cancer research. Every step counts, and every dollar makes a difference.
